"We're There for our Customers"
53Some Companies Still Get it Right
"We're There for our Customers." So spoke Meg, one of many delightful representatives I've had the pleasure of talking with by phone over several years. Meg spent 30 minutes (apparently during one heck of a winter storm) helping me choose a shoe from LL Bean's catalogue. Not only have Meg and her colleagues demonstrated pleasant professionalism throughout our history, but also, LL Bean's recorded information promises blessed silence while one waits for the next representative.
Silence! What greater gift in today's loud world? How often must we listen to noisy harangues or unwelcome music? (I'm talking about you, Bank of America.)
How often, for that matter, must we hear sentences that begin with, "Unfortunately"? Please: Say anything else. (How about, "Hmm. I'm not sure we can do that. May I suggest another option?")
In any case, here is my salute to companies that have shown the best customer service, in my admittedly limited experience, over the long haul:
LL Bean
Lands End (known to replace items of clothing even when told they were not to blame for its damage. Now, that's customer service!)
Eddie Bauer (similar)
USAA
Poland Spring Water Co.
The Four Seasons restaurant
AAA
Please feel free to nominate your own. Companies that still strive for excellent customer service, eschewing cheaper options, deserve our support. Or at the very least, a word of thanks.
