How Do You Feel? Well, How Do You Think?

Twelve-step programs call this "acting as if." It's a simple concept, really: If you don't feel great about that family reunion, business meeting or gift, pretend you do. Oh, you don't have to go all-out phony. Just smile. Exclaim, "I'm so happy to see you!" Before you even have time to think about how you feel, you will feel great.

Don't believe it? Try this exercise: Next time you're in a place where you can speak loudly, holler, "Yay!!" with a huge smile. Follow up, if you wish, with, "All right!" "Woo-hoo!" et cetera.

Notice anything? That's right: You feel terrific! Weird, huh? But it works. People respond to those who put out "positive vibes." Try it for a week. Let me know what happens.
